4 Natural Antibiotics in your kitchen!

Having a strong immune system is really imortant to help us stay healthy. But having a strong immune system won't keep us from getting infected by Bacteria, Fungus or even a Virus. Our ancestors have been using natural remedies for centuries and they are tested and proven to work. People are starting to research and go back to natural remedies to help them with all kinds of ailments. Here are four natural antibiotics and what they are used for. You may even have some of these in your own home.

1. Oregano
This miracle herb is not just for pasta sauce! Oregano is one of the most effective natural antibiotics, even more potent as an essential oil. Oregano cantains carvacrol and thymol, two compounds known to fight bacterial and fungal infections. When inhaled as an aromatherapy oregano has properties that activate for theraputic healing. Oregano has been show effective fighting Ecoli, urinary tract infection and pneumonia.

-Use for fungal skin infections - Mix 1-2 drops essentail oil with water or coconut oil and apply this to affected area.
- Use for sinus infection - add a few drops of essential oil to your diffuser or make a steam pot.
When using oregano essential oil it is always important to use 100% theraputic and organic oil and never use on your skin undiluted.

2. Garlic
It's not just for cooking! Garlic is a potent natural antibiotic with lots of benefits. Garlic has wonderful antimacrobial properties and was even considered a treatment for tuberculosis, which is a multi-drug resistant disease. Garlic contains allicin and other compounds that fight infection causeing pathogens. Adding garlic through cooking daily is a great way to help support your immune system. Here are some ways to use it.
-Eat 1-2 cloves of raw garlic a day. Chop or crush the garlic and wait 15 min for the allicin to convert. this way of ingesting is not for everyone and can cause upset stomach if you have a sensitivity.
-Use garlic oil for cooking- You can make your own garlic oil by soaking several peeled cloves in olive oil. Heat the mixture on low, let it stay for about 30 min until the garlic is infused.
-Use in wound healing by crushing garlic cloves and applying it to the wound.
* Before taking Garlic as an antibiotic, talk with your health provider. Some medications such as blood thinners and medical conditions like stomach ulcers may interact with garlic. It is importan to always consult with your doctor before use!

3. Ginger
This is a favorite of mine and I have Ginger root regularly in my house year round!
It is known to fight a lot of bacterial strains, making it a great n atural antibiotic. Used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine for thousands of years. The compounds that make this a potent antibiotic are terpenoids, shogaol, gingerol and gingerdiol. There are many other properties to ginger that you can benefit from as well. Ginger is known to remedy gum disease, tonsilitis, pharyngitis and H. pylori infection. It also does a great job on athletes foot. Here are some ways you can use Ginger.
-Chew on fresh ginger root twice a day.
-Make ginger tea using fresh root mor dried tea. Steep at least 5 mins, this is great for sore throats, colds, nausea and wellness. You can drink this 3 times a day safely.
*Ginger is safe when taken accordingly in recommended doses and in food. But it is recommended that if you have bleeding disorders, diabetes and heart conditions to check with your physician first. And always refer to your doctor when using it as a natural antibiotic or remedy.

4. Echinacea
This beautiful pink cone flower grows in lots of yards late spring through summer. It is also one of the most trusted choices by doctors. A study of Echniacea purpurea was published in the Journal of Biomedicine and Biotechnology. It was stated that its plant extracts can kill different kinds of bacteria like Streptococcus pyogenes, which cause diseases such as Pnuemonia, Scarlet Fever, Cellulitis, Pharyngitis and Rheumatic Fever, among others. Taking Echinacea at the start of an illness or appearance of symptoms will help the duration of the illness. You can us the flowers, leaves and roots of the Echinacea plant. It is believed that the roots contain the most active compounds that fight infection and disease. Gather your parts, wash and dry them by hanging them for several days. Once dried store them in an aritight container like a mason jar.
- Echinacea root decoction prep - Simmer 2 tsp dried Echinacea root in 1c of hot water for 20-30 min. strain and drink.
- Echinacea petals and leaves infusion - Steep 1-2 tsp of dried ptals/leaves in boiling water for 15 min. Strain and drink.
* Echinacea is meant for short term use only. Long term use may lead to possible side effects. If you have allergies to flowers like chru=ysanthemums, daisies, marigolds, and ragweed you may have an allergic reaction to Echinacea. Consult your physician if you have an auto-immune diease or take immunosuppresive drugs.

The use of natural antibiotics and remedies have been in use for thousands of years before modern pharmecuticals. So if you have one or all of these growing in your garden, treat it like gold cause these precious plants can help to take care of you.
